Results from Toroidal Flux-Tube Gyrokinetic PIC Simulation
Electrostatic potential contours from the saturated nonlinear phase of a simulation of ITG turbulence in a tokamak. Tokamak size parameters of fusion interest are used. (The gyroradius divided by temperature-gradient scale length is 0.002).
The potential contours are rendered as colors on selected slices of 3D data constructed by stacking pieces of the flux-tube.
The figure shows contours on a poloidal and outer and inner midplane sections of a toroidal annulus bounded by two flux surfaces. In addition, contours on a sheet of field lines are shown. The sheet traverses 1 poloidal circuit and roughly 2 toroidal circuits. The segments of the sheet seen have passed 1/2 and 3/2 toroidal circuits from a point on the outer mid plane at which the sheet pointed radially outwards.
